santa needs to go!!!

without comments

I was watching “yes, Chicago” Macy’s ad on TV and I was outraged and mad! Take the word Santa Claus in the ad replace it with Jesus and there you have it the true reason for the season. Santa Claus is the greatest marketing idea in history. Take one man’s idea of kindness and compassion by giving only to show gods in all things, that he is good, through a great time of suffering for Christians. I think that he would love being idolized in a fat man, a old father time beard, a red suit and best of all giving kids all that they desire with “magic“ and a toy shop as there only explanation . I think that the true St. Nick would be rolling in his grave. St. Nick reason for giving was so that god would be glorified and give the message of hope of a savior.

Every year parents of young children give in to the idea that they need to lie to there kids and steal there children’s letter to Santa. Only for the parents to wake up early, suffer long lines in the brutal cold, taking days off in order to get there child a toys to a exact specification, spending way out of there budget in order to give everything on “ the list” and if they don’t get everything they feel like a complete failure. Some parent even dress up as Santa in case there child wakes up or on purpose wake them up (more deceiving), take a bite of the cookie that children leave for Santa(deceiving ). Children giving worship and praise to a fictional idol. Hmmm…. I think that a important commandment, somewhere. If you think I’m being to cynical, who are the children giving thanks to on Christmas, why are the kids good for all year round? Do the kids really want to be good or in fear that Santa is watching? When the lie of Santa is revealed and parents see their child in painful look and most likely in tears, can they really say what that what they did was justified? In a very important time when the parent is trying to teach morals and values?

It does not take a therapist that the children are not learning about giving, they are learning about receiving. May be a better way is just to have kids select and exchange thought full gifts with other people. I learn this thanksgiving, that true thankfulness is not just a state of mind but it calls for a outward response. Its time to celebrate Jesus!!!
